About Me
Ben Wilde – Physiotherapist
I started life as a physiotherapist working as a civilian contractor for the Royal Marines 1st Assault and Special Boat Service. From there I moved into professional football at Southampton Football Club before relocating to London to take up the role of 1st Team physiotherapist at Ealing Trailfinders.
I completed my Masters in Advanced Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy specialising in Sports and Performance and have since then have held positions ranging from head of sports medicine to clinical director of services in private practice.
I have been fortunate enough to have and still work with elite sports women and men including both junior and senior squads of the Great Britain Rowing Team, a sport very close to my heart.

I went to see Ben for a stubborn neck issue that I had been struggling with for some time. After seeing multiple healthcare professionals, I must say the progress Ben made in just four sessions far surpassed anything I had experienced before. His approach was thorough, effective, and completely focused on my issue. The exercises were easy and just the right amount too which made the rehab process quick and stress free! I'm now able to weight train pain-free, and even better, I've learned how to manage any restrictions on my own. I can't recommend Ben highly enough—not only is he incredibly knowledgeable, but he's also a genuinely great person. Ben is far more than just a physio; he's a true expert in his field.

I have been to Ben for the last 15 years and even though I now live up in Yorkshire, I still book an appointment whenever I come back down South! I met Ben through booking a physio appt when I first moved to London as I had a sore knee and I needed to compete in a rowing race the following weekend. He has been a world of support ever since with my rowing enabling me to achieve my dreams by “keeping me together” throughout many injuries across the years. He is professional in his manner yet friendly and explains everything fully. He understands the impact time out of sport with injury or niggles can have on any athlete so creates rehab programmes which work with you knowing most will just continue training anyways! I highly recommend Ben to ANYONE and don’t trust anyone as much as him!

I first saw Ben when I was new to rowing, aged 14, and he’s been my go to physio for more than ten years since then. Whenever I’m in need of an appointment he is there to see me and help get me back to full health with whatever treatment I need and a full programme of rehabilitation exercises. Ben has helped me come back from injuries to my back, ribs, shoulders and knee, using a variety of different treatments and solutions to each problem. I’m often hesitant to contact a physio whenever I’m in the thick of an important training block or in racing season, in case of compromising my training or racing by putting my injuries into someone else’s hands. However, with Ben I’ve always been confident that he will take my wider training context into consideration when seeing me, and will always put my performance first when deciding what treatment is best. Ben has helped me through the ranks of age-group international rowing all the way through to my first senior international appearance for GB, and he is my first port of call whenever I’m in need of emergency injury help or prevention.

Ben has been an indispensable part of my journey to recovery from various injuries including Achilles tendon, knee, and shoulder issues. His profound understanding of the body allows him to swiftly pinpoint the root cause of any problem and explain it comprehensively, always taking the time to ensure I understood what the issue was. His treatment approach, integrating therapy with targeted gym exercises, consistently delivered excellent results. Beyond his professional expertise, Ben's warm and friendly demeanor made every session not only productive but also enjoyable. Hoping to stay injury free, but if I got injured again wouldn't hesitate to see Ben.

I’ve been seeing Ben for well over 10 years, and there’s no one I trust more when it comes to taking care of my body and providing the foundation I need to perform on race day. Ben's expertise and dedication are unparalleled, and his holistic approach to treatment has made a significant impact on my athletic performance and overall well-being. When you see Ben, he ensures he fully understands the context of your injury. He delves into various aspects of your life, including training loads, diet, stress levels, and more, to get a comprehensive understanding of your situation. This thorough assessment allows him to connect the dots between biomechanics and performance, ensuring that he can provide a recovery plan tailored specifically to your needs. His method is not just about treating the symptoms but addressing the root cause of the problem, which leads to more effective and long-lasting results. I started working with Ben in May of 2023, 5 months out from the Olympic rowing qualification regatta. For context, I had two herniated discs in my lower back that had inhibited me from rowing from March of 2023. From the first session Ben and I had together, I knew he meant business. He is to the point, analytical, incredibly knowledgable, and extremely dynamic in his approach to recovery. Often the path to rehabilitation isn’t straight - mine definitely wasn’t - and Ben fully embraced this. Adjusting my program where necessary and nailing down areas that were working. Going for the Olympics had always been my goal, and after 10 years of high level training, at a time where all I needed was to be at my best, I wasn’t. Working with Ben, gave me the reassurance that I would get to where I needed to be, despite the ridiculously short amount of time we had to rehab and prepare. This reassurance eventually turned to confidence and I was able to give it my all without hesitation. For anyone who is familiar with rowing, going from being unable to row to rowing a full 2km race at the Olympic qualifiers within 5 months is no easy feat - one that would have only been possible by working with Ben. To those looking for a physio, there is no one better to go to. I’ve had my fair share of physios from all over the world, all of whom I’m grateful for, however, none compare to Ben Wilde. Not only did he get me physically in shape, he helped me deal with the nerves of competing at the highest level. I remember distinctly Ben reframing the qualifiers - not to look at them as a hurdle but rather as a gift of sorts. In his words “this sort of pressure is a privilege”. He made all the difference in aiding me to compete at my best. I truly am so grateful for the impression he had on me whilst working with him and will continue to have on me in future career and sporting endeavours.

Iruptured my ACL and tore my meniscus and after seeing other physiotherapists, I was referred to Ben. Every week I would look forward to rehab sessions taking me one step closer to getting back to the sports I love playing. Ben helped me gain perspective on my injury and work hard to achieve my goals. Ambitious but realistic, Ben could not have managed my recovery better. We had a continuous honest conversation about progress and expectations. Not only did Ben help build my physical strength and resilience but mentally too. A genuinely kind and caring man despite his tough gym sessions. I could not recommend him more highly. Thanks to Ben I have returned to sport, received three blues in my first year at Cambridge and am heading to Hong Kong this August to compete in the U20 lacrosse world cup.
